Whole Grains & Refined Fiber Foods

health and fitness

High fiber diets can be powerful tools for weight loss and good health. The same applies to whole grains. A grain is considered a whole grain if it contains all of its components, including the bran, germ, and endosperm. Refined grains are often enriched with sugar and processed to remove these elements. This takes out the natural fibers and endosperm from the grains. Whole grain products such as bread, pasta, and other whole grains are essential for a healthy diet.

Research shows that whole grains have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Additionally, studies have linked the consumption of whole grains with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Researchers in the BMJ discovered a correlation between fiber intake, health outcomes, and concluded that whole grains were the best choice for overall good health. One study found that higher fiber diets were associated with lower rates in cancer, while low fiber diets had no effect upon risk factors for these diseases.

It is well-known that whole grains provide many health benefits. According to the Institute of Medicine children who ate more whole grain than their peers were able attain the recommended level of fiber. Study results showed that children who consumed more whole grains were 59 per cent more likely to be in top three percent of fiber consumers than those who ate fewer. The researchers attributed the difference in fiber intake to the presence of insulin-resistance hormones.

The study also showed that women who ate more whole grains were less likely to develop coronary artery disease. The association between a person's diet and whole grains was strongest in women. This means that the more they eat of these foods, the less they will develop heart disease. However, whole grains offer many health benefits. They are rich in antioxidants and other nutrients, such as omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acid, fiber, and phytonutrients.

The human body is composed of trillions if not billions of cells. These cells combine to form organs or tissues that serve specific functions. When one cell dies, another cell replaces it. Chemical signals, called hormones, allow cells to communicate with each other. Hormones regulate all bodily functions from growth and developmental to metabolism and immunity.

Hormones are chemical substances that glands secrete throughout the body. They travel through bloodstreams and act as messengers that control the function of our bodies. Some hormones are produced within the body while others are externally manufactured.

The release of hormones from a hormone producing gland into the bloodstream is the beginning of hormone production. Once hormones have been released, they travel through the body until reaching their target organ. In some cases, hormones remain active only for a short period of time. Other hormones can remain active longer, and they continue to affect the body's functionality even after leaving the bloodstream.

Some hormones may be produced in large numbers. Others are only produced in very small quantities.

Certain hormones can only be produced at specific times in life. For example, estrogen can be produced during puberty or pregnancy. Estrogen assists women with breast development, bone density, and osteoporosis prevention. It promotes hair growth as well as keeping skin soft and smooth.

Antibiotics kill harmful bacteria. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. There are many different types of antibiotics. Some are administered topically, while others can be taken orally.

People who have been exposed may be prescribed antibiotics. If someone has chicken pox, they might need to take an oral antibiotic in order to prevent shingles. Or, if someone has had strep throat, he or she might receive an injection of penicillin to help prevent pneumonia.

If antibiotics are to be administered to children, they must be prescribed by a doctor. Side effects of antibiotics can be more dangerous for children than for adults.

Diarrhea is the most common side effect from antibiotics. Other side effects that could occur include nausea, vomiting and dizziness. These side effects are usually gone once the treatment is complete.

Ten tips for a healthy lifestyle

How to live a healthy life

Our fast-paced world means that we aren't getting enough sleep, don't eat enough, drink too much alcohol, and smoke too many cigarettes. We don’t take proper care of our bodies.

It is very hard to find a balanced diet and exercise routine when you work fulltime and do all these things at the same time. It is even more difficult if you feel stressed. Then, your mind tells yourself that it cannot handle this situation any more so we feel guilty about it and give up.

If you feel something is wrong with the body, it is probably. Talk to your doctor about your condition. If you find nothing unusual, it could be stress from your job.

Some people think that they are lucky because their jobs allow them to go to gym regularly or they have some friends who help them to keep fit. They are fortunate. These people don't have any difficulties. They control everything. I wish all people could do the same. Many of us aren't able to find the right balance between our personal and professional lives. Bad habits can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases.

Here are some tips to help improve your lifestyle.

  1. Get adequate sleep - 7 hours a day minimum, 8 hours maximum. You should be able to sleep in a proper position and avoid caffeine the hour before you go to bed. Caffeine blocks melatonin hormones, making it difficult to fall asleep. Also, make sure that your bedroom is clean and dark. Make sure that you use blackout curtains especially if you are working late at night.
  2. Eat well - Have breakfast every morning. Avoid sugary products, fried foods, white breads, and processed food. Include fruits, vegetables, and whole grain for lunch. You should eat healthy afternoon snacks that are high in protein. These include nuts, seeds beans, legumes, fish, cheese, and dairy products. Avoid junk food like chips, candies and cakes.
  3. Drink plenty of water - Most of us don' t drink enough water. Water helps us to burn more calories, keeps our skin looking young and supple, flushes toxins from our system and improves digestion. Drinking six glasses of water daily will help you lose weight faster. The best way to measure your hydration level is by checking the color of your urine. Dehydrated means yellow; slightly dehydrated means orange; normal means pink; overhydrated means red; clear means highly-overhydrated.
  4. Exercise - Regular exercise has been shown to reduce depression and increase energy levels. Walking can be a great way to improve your mood. Although walking may seem simple, it is not easy. It requires concentration and effort. Your brain must be able to concentrate on walking, while taking deep breaths and slowing down. For between 100 and 150 calories, a 30 minute walk can be enough to burn about 100 to 150 calories. Slowly build up and start slow. To avoid injuries, stretch after exercising.
  5. Positive thinking is vital for mental health. When we think positively, we create a happy environment inside ourselves. Negative thoughts can cause anxiety and drain our energy. Try to visualize the things you are aiming to achieve. Break down the tasks into smaller steps if you feel overwhelmed by all the new tasks. Be aware that you will fail at times, but don't despair. Just get back up and start over.
  6. Learn to say No. We are often so busy that our attention is not focused on the important things we are doing. It is important to be able to say No when needed. Not saying "no" is rude. A No means that you can't take care of something now. You will always find another way to do the job. You should set limits. Ask for help. Or simply delegate this work to someone else.
  7. Take care your body. Keep track of what you eat. You can boost your metabolism by eating healthier foods. Don't eat too much oily or heavy foods as they can increase cholesterol levels. A good tip is to have three meals and two snacks daily. You should consume around 2000 - 2500 calories per day.
  8. Meditation can be a great stress relief and can help reduce anxiety. Relax your mind by sitting still with your eyes closed. This exercise will improve your ability to think clearly and help you make decisions. Meditation regularly can make you happier and more calm.
  9. Breakfast is the most important meal in the day. Skipping breakfast can lead to eating too much lunch. It is never too late to eat a balanced breakfast as long as you eat within 1 hour of waking. Breakfast boosts energy and helps to manage hunger.
  10. Clean eating is key to a happy mood. Avoid junk food, artificial ingredients and foods that are high in preservatives. These products keep your body acidic and trigger cravings. Vegetables and fruits are high in vitamins and minerals, which can lead to better overall health.
